Adapted Equipment
Grimsby's Health & Wellbeing Centre houses gym equipment that is inclusive for all, helping those with a disability or impairment to more easily enjoy exercise and fitness. Equipment available includes:
- Adapted Cross Trainer (Cybex)
- Adapted Bike (Sci-Fit)
- Adapted Treadmill (Biodex)
- Adapted Rowing Machine (Concept 2)
- Recumbent Bikes
The Wellness Hub also houses specialist equipment, including toning chairs and toning tables. These offer power assisted exercise, with minimal impact or strain on the body.
In the pool building, Grimsby Leisure Centre's pool is accessible via a pool-side lift, alongside a pool-side hoist. A mobile over-head tracking hoist is available in the disability changing area. Immingham Swimming Pool also offers a pool side hoist and accessible changing rooms.
We work closely in partnership with Care Plus Group and the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a number of weekly activities across our centres for people with disabilities. A water therapy session for Parkinson's and Stroke patients led by a qualified instructor takes place weekly at Grimsby Leisure Centre.
Suited for neurological conditions
Since joining the gym, I have made significant progress. The equipment here is well suited for people managing neurological conditions. I use the adapted treadmill and upper body cycle machine regularly and all of the exercises have helped to improve my co-ordination, balance and fitness levels, which are helping in my life outside of the gym.

If they can do it, I can do it!
Because we’re a health and wellbeing centre, we have a lot of members with disabilities. Whenever I hear anyone say “I can’t do this”, I stop them and say, “No, you can!”. I want to be able to have people read this story, and think “If they can do it, I can do it!
