Huge congratulations to our team at Grimsby Health and Wellbeing Centre who this month secured the first-ever recognised Centre of Excellence Award from Shapemaster, the leading manufacturer of power-assisted exercise equipment.
Howard Blackburn, Shapemaster’s managing director presented Ben, Ian and Kieran from our health improvement team with the award last week during the official opening of the centre’s new Wellness Hub.
At Grimsby we are seeing something transformative. We wish we could pick this model up and drop it in every community around the UK.
According to the UK Government’s statistics, 80 per cent of the cost of the problems that are associated with lack of exercise and poor eating, are preventable. If we could reproduce what Lincs Inspire and the team have done here in Grimsby all over the country, we would not only save the NHS so much money, but we would be giving so many people their lives back.Howard Blackburn Shapemaster, Managing Director
Shapemaster supply Lincs Inspire with 22 pieces of power-assisted exercise equipment, which is available for customers to use in the new Wellness Hub in Grimsby’s Health and Wellbeing Centre.
Lincs Inspire and Shapemaster feel very passionately about creating a more inclusive offer, particularly for older adults and those living with long term medical conditions. The unique equipment enables users to access exercise with greater ease, helping them onto the first rung of the ladder and giving them their lives back.
Howard added: “We are trying to improve people’s quality of lives no matter what their background, no matter what their condition or how complex their needs are. Shapemaster is proud to recognise the work that is going on in Grimsby and by the team with this Centre of Excellence Award.”
Ben Frary, health improvement manager, said: “We are delighted to have been presented with this award from Shapemaster who work throughout the UK and distribute their equipment in leisure and therapy settings around the world.
“Customers tell us how much this equipment is helping them to live more fulfilling lives. For some it is about strengthening their muscles, supplementing physiotherapy, helping to manage pain, or assisting with recovery from serious illnesses such as stroke or cancer. Many customers talk about how the equipment helps them to feel fitter and stronger but, along with all the physical benefits, the social setting of the Wellness Hub is equally important.”
Shapemaster identify five very important attributes that affect a person’s quality of life, especially as they get older. The power-assisted exercise equipment is designed to benefit a person’s…
- Cardiovascular endurance
- Mental wellbeing
The mental wellbeing is just as important as the four physical attributes. Exercise must be enjoyable. If exercise isn’t fun, then people often don’t partake in it long enough to get the physical benefits.
