World Book Night 2021
Books to make you smile
World Book Night is the annual celebration of books and reading on 23rd April that brings together people from all backgrounds for one reason – to inspire others to read more.
Presented by the Reading Agency, and in partnership with Specsavers, in 2021 World Book Night celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special “Books to Make You Smile” theme.
Over the past ten years, The Reading Agency has given away over 2.8 million books via more than 90,000 volunteers and organisations across the UK. They have been distributed through prisons, libraries, colleges, hospitals, care homes and homeless shelters. Individuals keen on sharing their love of reading also give away their own books. The focus is on reaching people who are not already regular readers. Research shows that the benefits of reading for pleasure include better health and wellbeing, lowering stress and feelings of isolation.
In previous years Lincs Inspire has given out a variety of books donated by the Reading Agency; a mixture of the funny, scary and thrilling. These include The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion, The Woman in Black by Susan Hill and Raven Black by Ann Cleeves. We will not be giving out books on 23rd April but will do so later in the year.
The Reading Agency works with publishers and volunteers each year to come up with a giveaway list of fantastic reads for adults and young adults, across a range of genres and including non-fiction, to appeal to both readers and non-readers.
