Stroke Awareness

This Stroke Awareness Month we share a further story from a member who is living with the effects of a stroke. Peggy uses our Wellness Hub and explains how it is helping her to gain the movement in her left-hand side.

The Shapemaster power-assisted exercise equipment in the Wellness Hub helps people living with the effects of a stroke as it can help the return of movement over time.

Ian Shorley-Harlow, Health Improvement Co-ordinator for Lincs Inspire, explains: “The equipment is power assisted so it helps you to make a range of movement throughout the entire body, that you otherwise might not be able to do unassisted and it helps you to sustain movement for longer.

“It helps in the return of movement along with flexibility and with the strengthening of muscles at a realistic rate for the individual. Balance and coordination can also be improved by the effects of strengthening the core area.

“For customers who have problems gripping a glove can be used and other adaptations can also be made for other areas of the body.”
