Libraries Launch New Takeaway Service
Issued: Friday, July 3rd
A DROP-OFF and library book takeaway service will be available from Monday, July 6 in North East Lincolnshire, after the Government confirmed that libraries could once again re-open following closure in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Lincs Inspire Libraries look forward to seeing customers who will be able to return their library books by dropping them off into a ‘Hungry Hippo’ wheelie bin and at the same time be able to collect a selection of pre-ordered books. This service will be available from Grimsby Library, Immingham Library, Cleethorpes Library and Waltham Library.
Sam Garrod, Customer Services Supervisor at Grimsby Library, said: “We are all looking forward to seeing our customers again and are working hard to make our buildings Covid-safe for customers and staff.
“Although many customers have taken advantage of our online library whilst we have been closed, we know how much some customers have missed reading a printed book from the library.
“Before we open our doors fully to customers, a drop-off and collection service will be available between set-times. This provides an ideal opportunity for customers to safely drop off books they have already read and at the same time easily collect some new books that will be ready and waiting for them, and without having to enter any of our library buildings.
“Once our ‘Hungry Hippo’s’ are full they will be closed, sealed, and left to relax for at least 72 hours! At which point staff can safely remove and prepare the books to go back on the shelves. This enables us to provide a library service as quickly as possible and at the same time to also support our staff in getting library buildings ready to welcome customers in once again, and hopefully this will be later in the month.”
The free Library Takeaway service will enable customers to order their books online or over the phone, choosing both the genre and book format they prefer. Customers can decide how many books they would like, up to a maximum of 10, before selecting a time slot for collection from their preferred library.
As well as the Library Takeaway service a standard reserve and collect will also be available for customers who know which titles they would like to borrow. Customers can either reserve books online via their library account or phone a library with their request. Library staff will then contact customers to arrange a collection slot. Customers are asked to be patient as this service may be a little slower than usual, however loan times have been doubled to six weeks and there will be no charge for reservations.
Libraries will be open for drop-off and collection from Monday, July 6, as follows:
Grimsby Central Library:
- Tuesdays – 10am to 1pm
- Wednesdays – 2pm to 4pm
- Fridays – 10am to 1pm
- Mondays – 2pm to 4pm
- Tuesdays – 2pm to 4pm
- Thursdays – 10am to 1pm
- Mondays – 10am to 1pm
- Thursdays – 2pm to 4pm
- Wednesdays – 10am to 1pm
- Fridays – 2pm to 4pm
Return dates on books borrowed before Lincs Inspire Libraries closed will be extended until the beginning of August to give customers longer to return items.
In the meantime, library staff are busy making libraries Covid-safe. This may mean things looking a little bit different to ensure customers can move safely and be socially distanced around the libraries. Some library activities, such as Craft and a Cuppa and Chorus and a Cuppa may have to wait a little while for their return. However, there are still plenty of online activities for customers to enjoy.
