Swim Teaching Training

We have an embedded tutor and assessor within our training team on-hand to ensure that our swimming teachers are armed with the skills to deliver lessons to the highest standard. We run swim teacher training courses throughout the year for anyone who would like to begin a rewarding career inspiring a love of swimming. Browse our courses below.

The Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant Qualification develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as a Swimming Assistant. It will enable you to actively support a qualified Swimming Teacher in the delivery of a pre-prepared session. 

Who is the course designed for?
Anyone who is interested in starting a career in teaching swimming or wants to assist a Swimming Teacher.

Course content
The Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant Qualification course is delivered through a mixture of classroom activities, e-learning exercises and practical poolside-based learning sessions. It covers the core knowledge that is required for this level including:
• Preparation of teaching activities
• Delivery of prepared activities within a session
• Roles and responsibilities within a learn to swim programme
• Health & Safety in the aquatic environment
• Eligibility

Pre-course requisites
You must be at least 16 years of age. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and you do not need any previous experience of teaching.

The Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as a Swimming Teacher.

It builds on the Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant qualification and gives you the skills to independently deliver swimming lessons.

Who is the course designed for?
Anyone who has an Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification who wants to become a Swimming Teacher.

Course content
The Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification course covers the core knowledge that is required to become a qualified Swimming Teacher, including:
• Planning and preparation of teaching activities
• Delivery of prepared activities within a session
• Monitoring and evaluating a series of swimming lessons
• Roles and responsibilities within a learn to swim programme
• Health & Safety in the aquatic environment

The Level 2 Teaching Pre-School Swimming qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Pre-School Swimming Teacher.

This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification. When achieved, it ensures swimming teachers can effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of pre-school swimming lessons.

Who is the course designed for?
Anyone who has already completed the Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification who wants to expand their pre-school swimming qualifications.

Course content
Assessment is made up of a series of component parts:

  • Theoretical questions
  • Lesson plans
  • Lesson overview
  • Observation record
  • Evaluation
  • Action plan

Assessment is the responsibility of the Tutor/Assessor and will cover the following:

  • Practical teaching through the use of observation, oral and/or written and recorded against a checklist of competence related to specific outcomes
  • Planning, preparation and other associated tasks
  • A selection of group work, presentations, group tasks, worksheets, games and pool work and other activities deemed appropriate by the assessor.

NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools where the water is deeper than the teachers’ standing depth and meets the Individual sites risk assessment. Valid for two years.

Number of spaces on each course: Maximum 12 candidates, Minimum 4 candidates 
Length of course: Two day course
Time: 9:30am to 5:30pm
Cost: £80 per candidate (Includes all course materials and certificates)
