Jim's Story

Inspiring Lives Project

“The programme’s about getting people active and giving people with disabilities the opportunity to try new things."

As an inclusive sports programme, Inspiring Lives has engaged with people of all ages, abilities and genders. The programme has grown year on year to reach out to over 1600 people with over 44,000 attendances since it began in 2014.

Prior to using the Toning Suite at Grimsby Leisure Centre, Stephen didn’t exercise regularly and feels the Toning Suite, alongside his Navigo weight loss group, have been instrumental factors in him leading a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Sandra has noticed significant benefits to her wellbeing since joining the Active Forever programme and has progressed from gentle exercise in the Toning Suite to more vigorous exercise in Grimsby Leisure Centre’s main gym.

Alan's Story

“Thanks to Tracey we have found my grandfather’s grave and also a member of our family that we never knew existed."

Alan attended one of Lincs Inspire’s local and family history workshops hoping to trace his grandfather. Armed with only his father’s birth certificate, his grandfather’s army service number and a small clipping from the ‘Official Gazette of the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya’.

In this case study we take a look at ten year old Brooke’s story and how special one-to-one sessions with Lincs Inspire’s Sports Development Team at his school helped him overcome a number of obstacles to learn to ride a bicycle and grow in confidence.

Shelia's Story

Shelia regularly attends Lincs Inspire’s Disability Swimming sessions at Grimsby Leisure Centre, as well as the gym at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre. After being diagnosed with osteoporosis and curvature of the spine Shelia got a GP referral onto Lincs Inspire’s Active Forever programme.

Swim School Instructor Mary Clark Awarded MBE

“This MBE is for everyone, for everyone who has been part of our lives, to help us achieve what we’ve achieved”

Mary, who has taught thousands of children to swim in the local area through her work at Immingham Swimming Pool and Pilgrim’s Swimming Club, has been recognised for her lifelong charity work and services to the local community.

Kids In Waltham Love LEGO Club

Waltham Library’s monthly LEGO Club sessions are proving extremely popular with youngsters and parents alike. The sessions which run on the first Thursday of every month from 4pm to 5pm, have seen the numbers of children taking part keep rising.

Threads Of The Past Project Proves A Great Sucess

Threads of the Past was an innovative heritage project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and delivered by Lincs Inspire’s Library Service and local textiles and mixed-media artist Nicky Dillerstone.

Improving Health & Wellbeing at Grimsby's Toning Suite

In November 2015 Shapemaster awarded Grimsby Leisure Centre a special recognition award for their innovative approach and integration of power assisted exercise equipment, within a wider centre setting.

Paul's Story

Paul regularly attends Over 50s Badminton at Grimsby Leisure Centre. It's a great way to keep active and enjoy Badminton with like-minded people. Take a look at this short film which shows what the sessions are all about and what Paul enjoys most about the sessions.

"This group is unbelievably important to me, for Matt."

This short film focuses on May and Matt Tees' experience of attending our Sporting Memories group at Waltham Library. Sport is something that many people are comfortable talking about and these sessions, although not exclusively for people with dementia, help to combat social isolation.

"As well as the physical wellbeing they get from it, they've told me about the mental wellbeing and how that's improved."

This short film focuses on Mick's experience attended our Over 55s Walking Football sessions which take place at Bradley Football Development Centre. Walking football is football but at a walking pace, take a look at what it's all about.

On Our Street Project at the Bert Boydon Centre

“We know that members of the group looked forward to our meetings each week and it really did make a difference to their lives."

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery players people in North East Lincolnshire have been reconnecting with their past by using historical maps, street directories and heritage artefacts to revive memories thanks to Lincs Inspire’s On Our Street: mapping our memories project.
