Inspire a Love of Reading

Inspire a love of reading this holiday with Lincs Inspire’s summer reading challenges.

Lincs Inspire Libraries are encouraging children and adults alike to visit their local library this summer to discover the wealth of books and other resources available.

Children can sign up to Mischief Makers, the Reading Agency’s annual summer reading scheme. Designed for 4-11 year olds, children need to borrow and read any six library books over the summer with activities and prizes inspired by the much-loved children's title Beano, which celebrates its 80th anniversary.

Adults have their own challenge to complete with Summer Reading Bingo. Again six books must be read by 15th September with a bingo card being completed as you go. Complete more lines and there are more chances to win cash prizes!

More details on each of the schemes can be found below, or simply enquire at your local Lincs Inspire Library in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and Waltham.

Children will explore a map of Beanotown to find a hidden treasure chest full of pranks and become ultimate mischief makers!

As children read library books for the Summer Reading Challenge, they will receive special stickers, some with mysterious smells. By adding these stickers to their map, young readers will help Dennis, Gnasher and friends solve clues and discover the treasure, having lots of fun and adventures along the way.

To take part in Mischief Makers, all children need to do is sign up at their nearest library where they will be given a colourful collector’s map of Beanotown to keep a record of their Summer Reading Challenge journey.

Mischief Makers launches in Lincs Inspire Libraries on Saturday 21st July. There’s a whole programme of events and activities planned for families over the summer to celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge, including free drop-in sessions suitable for children and their families where there will be for stories, crafts and other activities. Sessions will run from 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm on:

Monday 13th August  at Cleethorpes Library
• Tuesday 14th  August at Waltham Library
• Wednesday 15th August at Grimsby Library
• Thursday 16th August at Immingham Library

Pick up your summer holiday read from a Lincs Inspire Library this summer and enter the Summer Reading Bingo challenge to be in with the chance of winning cash prizes.

Whether you are a book lover or a holiday reader or haven’t got stuck into a good book for some time, the challenge is open to everyone 16 years and over.

All types of books are eligible as part of the challenge including fiction and non-fiction, talking books and quick reads, as well as some free choice squares, so there are plenty of ways to fill up the bingo cards.

To enter, pick up a bingo card from your local Lincs Inspire library (Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Immingham and Waltham) and complete as many lines as you can by 15th September before handing it back in. If you’re not already a library member, it’s free to join. Just bring along some identification to register.

One line completed on the bingo card stands for one entry in the competition, two lines is two entries, three lines is three entries and a full house is five entries.

The free prize draw will then be made with the winner receiving £25, runner up £15 and third name drawn, £10.
