The BFG Comes to Town
Issued: October 28, 2019
To celebrate the arrival of the BFG in Pictures, an exhibition of Sir Quentin Blake’s illustrations from one of Roald Dahl’s most popular stories, this Friday, Cleethorpes Library welcomes House of Illustration Curator Olivia Ahmed to tell the story of the evolution of one of children’s literature’s most iconic characters.
Starting at 7:30pm in the library’s Albert Room, the talk is aimed at an adult audience with an interest in illustration. Olivia will discuss Blake’s previously unseen drawings, which will be exhibiting as part of the BFG in pictures, as well as how his career started, how he works in his studio and the work he is doing today.
Rachel McWilliam, Arts Development Officer, Lincs Inspire said:
“What better way to mark the arrival of art from a world renowned illustrator, than with this talk from House of Illustration. The portfolio is fascinating by itself, but we can’t wait to hear the stories behind its exhibits. It’s a must see for all artists and illustrators out there, as well as anyone who grew up reading these much-loved stories.”
Tickets cost £3 and can be booked in advance by calling Cleethorpes Library on (01472) 323650.
The touring exhibition unveils at the library this Wednesday thanks to funding from Arts Council England Libraries Fund.
