Safe reopening of leisure and sports facilities
Issued: Friday, December 27
With the support of North East Lincolnshire Council, Lincs Inspire Limited who manage the borough’s public leisure facilities, will reopen all its facilities to the public following this latest lockdown.
Two leisure facilities have remained closed since the start of lockdown in March, Immingham Swimming Pool and King George V Athletic Stadium, these venues will now reopen their doors alongside Grimsby Leisure Centre and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.
Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for tourism, leisure and culture, said: “We are really pleased to be able to support the ongoing delivery of our leisure services across the borough, and recognise the importance of these facilities for all our community. Giving residents the opportunity to maintain their fitness and wellbeing is vitally important, and endorsed by health professionals as beneficial to staying healthy and more able to fight infection.
“I’m pleased to hear that both Immingham Pool and KGV Stadium will be reopening soon and following the Government guidance on the safe operation of leisure and sporting venues.”
As a result of the design and size of the facilities a revised programme of activities and opening hours is required, with strict limits on the numbers of participants, to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for both customers and staff.
Immingham Swimming Pool and Gym will reopen on Thursday, December 3, Monday to Friday from 4pm to 9pm and on Saturday mornings from 8am to 12 noon. A timetable and booking system will soon be available for the public swimming sessions and the use of the gym. In addition, a new swimming lesson programme will also recommence in the New Year.
King George V Stadium will reopen on Monday, December 7, for athletics club hire and for group-use of the 5-aside football pitches, Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm. Unfortunately, at this time, and for safety reasons, the gym within the facility will not reopen.
Sue Wells, chief executive of Lincs Inspire, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council and their support is appreciated in these difficult times. We are very much look looking forward to getting these two facilities, which have unfortunately remained closed since March, safely back open for our members and customers to recommence their fitness, leisure and sporting activities with us. We are aware that things will look a little different, and the opening hours are not as they were, but we ask for patience and understanding.
“Our industry is vital in the fight against this terrible pandemic. We want to support our community to stay fit and active. Our teams are looking forward to welcoming everyone back and our priority is to ensure both customers and staff remain safe.”
Grimsby Leisure Centre and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre will also reopen on Thursday, December 3, with some small changes to services following this latest lockdown measure. The health and wellbeing site at Grimsby Leisure Centre will reopen to all ages. The covid-safe procedures in place at these venues, will be transferred to both Immingham and King George V Stadium.
Group exercise classes are unable to recommence in Tier 3, but members can enjoy an exclusive online service with Lincs Inspire’s staff bringing virtual classes to their front rooms. Further information about the reopening plans and safety measures are available here. Emails have also been sent to all members.
