An innovative evening of theatre, which will decide the winner of Breakwater Theatre Company’s programme of theatre development work will be performed this Friday, from 7:30pm at Cleethorpes Library.
‘Winner Stays On’ will see four plays; ‘Robert and Rose’, ‘Geordie Heroine’, ‘An Enlargement of the Heart’ and ‘Interlude in the Park’ compete for prize money of £100 decided by audience vote on the evening.
‘Robert and Rose’ is a family drama with a secret to be revealed as a father and son confront each other. ‘Geordie Heroine’ is about two women, one of whom visits her former pupil as she is released from custody after fighting for women’s rights as a suffragette in Newcastle.’ An Enlargement of the Heart’ is a complex drama set in the prison cell of a man who believes he has been wrongly imprisoned. ‘An Interlude in the Park’ sees a young homeless woman meet a suicidal young man and they strike up an unlikely friendship.
Andy Evans, Founder and Co-Director of Breakwater Theatre Company said:
“We’re really looking forward to these performances, which will see previous winners from 2019 scriptwriting competitions compete against each other.
“We have had great fun exploring new writing for the stage and have been fortunate to be sent some incredibly strong scripts this year. We hope to stage further new writing next year and already have two plays and a scratch night planned.”
