Play writing competition returns!

Issued: 20.03.19

Join us on Friday 29th March from 7:30pm at Cleethorpes Library for what promises to be an intriguing night of theatre, as a second batch of scripts entered into the play writing competition ‘Rough Cuts and Scratches’ will be showcased to a live audience.

‘Rough Cuts and Scratches Round 2’ is the sequel to the original competition, which saw two plays win a commission to the value of £300 each and have the opportunity to see their work performed more completely in October with New Perspective Theatre Company.

The second instalment of the competition, funded by Arts Council England and led by Lincs Inspire Arts Development and Breakwater Theatre Company, is another scratch contest and will also carry an array of cash prizes, with the winners yet again decided by the live audience vote.

Andy Evans, Founder and Co-Director of Breakwater Theatre Company said: “The idea behind the competition is to find writing talent in its raw form. Each play will stand or fall by the writing as props and costumes are kept to a bare minimum. There should be something for everyone who enjoys new drama in the theatre.”

The contest has attracted entries from all over the world with entries from Israel, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, as well as much more home-grown talent.

‘Rough Cuts and Scratches Round 2’ will take place on Friday 29th March from 7:30pm at Cleethorpes Library.  Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased from Cleethorpes Library in advance or on the door on the night.
