‘Rough Cuts and Scratches’ Play Writing Competition to take place at Cleethorpes Library
Join us this Friday 22nd February from 7:30pm at Cleethorpes Library for what promises to be an intriguing night of theatre, as scripts entered into the play writing competition ‘Rough Cuts and Scratches’ are showcased to a live audience.
The competition, funded by Arts Council England sees Lincs Inspire Arts and Libraries Development work with North East Lincolnshire-based Breakwater Theatre Company to offer writers the chance to compete to win a commission to the value of £300 and see their work performed more completely in October with costuming and props.
Six widely differing plays will be presented to an audience, who will have the final say as to which two will win the commission and opportunity to work with New Perspectives Theatre Company.
Andy Evans, Founder and Co-Director of Breakwater Theatre Company said: “The idea behind the competition is to find writing talent in its raw form. Each play will stand or fall by the writing as props and costumes are kept to a bare minimum. Subject matter ranges from historical fiction through to a nightmarish vision of the near future. It ranges from solo performances to more involved character studies with more actors. There should be something for everyone who enjoys new drama in the theatre.”
The contest has attracted entries from all over the world with entries from Israel, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, as well as much more home-grown talent.
‘Rough Cuts and Scratches’ will take place this Friday from 7:30pm at Cleethorpes Library. Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased from Cleethorpes Library in advance or on the door on the night. For more information click here
Due to the popularity of the event and high level of entries, ‘Rough Cuts and Scratches Round 2’ will follow up Friday’s event. The second instalment will be on March 29th at Cleethorpes Library and will also carry an array of cash prizes.
