Join our Library and Archives Services in the Council Chamber at Grimsby Town Hall on 13th and 14th September for ‘Back to School’, an exhibition looking at schools and schooling in North East Lincolnshire during the 19th and 20th century.

The display will include photographs, documents and artefacts from our Libraries' and North East Lincolnshire Archives' collections. The topics covered will include plays & pageants, schools at war, prizes and punishments, and school excursions. Included among the items on display will be a panoramic photograph of the pupils at Cleethorpes Girls Secondary School (November 1927), presentation volumes to star pupils (1899-1917), the Architect’s plans for Strand Street School (1910), photographs of a pageant at Scartho School (1929), photographs of Grimsby High School for Girls (now The Wheatsheaf public house) and a Victorian stationery stamp used by the Grimsby Education Committee.

Adrian Wilkinson, Archivist, Lincs Inspire said:

“This is a part of our history that everyone can relate to. We have some wonderful items relating to local schools and I am sure that the exhibition will bring back memories for many people.”

The exhibition is free to attend and will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm on both days.
