The next Inspiring Lives disability sports session at Grimsby Leisure Centre will celebrate the achievements of everyone involved in the programme since its launch three years ago.
New participants, together with those who have attended week-in week-out, are all welcome on Wednesday, October 4 from 9:30am to 12 noon to enjoy a range of sports including trampolines, cycling, boxing, dancing and swimming. At 12 noon an awards ceremony will give everyone the opportunity to celebrate their successes including participants, carers, partners and sports coaches.
The Inspiring Lives programme was set up thanks to a grant from Sport England aimed at developing inclusivity in sport in North East Lincolnshire. Since the programme began over one thousand people have taken part in a host of activities and events aimed at increasing the awareness of, and the opportunities for disability sports.
Whilst activities have taken place across all Lincs Inspire facilities and community venues, Grimsby Leisure Centre has become a hub for all types of disability sport and has seen new specialist gym equipment installed and toning chairs and beds, assisting people with a range of health conditions.
The Sport England grant money has now come to end but the activities will continue to ensure those who have a disability or additional needs are given the opportunity to access a range of sports.
The sessions involve a number of organisations and are run in partnership with Care Plus Group and the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.
