Immingham focuses on heritage

Issued: Thursday, May 18

THE preservation of historical paper documents and a talk on the history of Immingham Dock are the focus of Local History Month next week as the town hosts two events to celebrate the area’s heritage.

The events have been organised by Lincs Inspire Libraries to coincide with activities, exhibitions and lectures across the country as part of a national drive to increase awareness of local history.

Peter Noon, archives conservator leads a conservation workshop on the main responsibilities of his role with particular emphasis on paper-making and parchment. Those attending are invited to bring their own archive material or historical documents for advice on conservation methods. This event takes place at Immingham Library on Tuesday, May 23 from 2pm to 4pm.

Garry Crossland’s talk on the history of Immingham Dock will take place on Friday, May 26 from 2pm to 4pm at Immingham Civic Centre. Garry is a local historian and author who worked at ABP for 36 years. He is currently Secretary of Immingham Museum.

Each event costs £2 per person and places can be booked in advance by contacting Immingham Library on (01472) 323631.
