Members' Corner - Ian's Fitness Journey

Six years ago Ian weighed 21 and a half stone and was beginning to experience pain in his knees and hips as a result. He was keen to lose weight and live a more active and healthy life.

Ian altered his diet and started to exercise lightly by swimming at Grimsby Swimming Pool twice a week. He soon began to see the benefits of regular exercise on both his physical and mental wellbeing.

Ian explained: “After a while the weight started dropping off; heavily at first for the first couple of months. Once it slowed down a bit I started going to the gym, doing a bit of cardio and eventually a bit of weight training.”

Ian has gradually increased his fitness levels and now exercises at Immingham Swimming Pool five times a week, with occasional extra swimming sessions at Grimsby Leisure Centre.  His everyday workout consists of 10 minutes cardio on the treadmill, 15 minutes on the cable column and a 30 minute swim in the pool.

He now weighs 11 and a half stone and has lost 10 stone through his dedication and hard work. He would recommend regular exercise to others, he explained: “I feel healthier, fitter and more energised. Plus, I’ve made a few friends.” Ian has also found Lincs Inspire’s staff to be ‘helpful’, ‘friendly’ and always willing to offer their assistance.

Dave White, Lincs Inspire Fitness Supervisor, said: “Ian’s a regular fixture in our gym, he’s here at least three to four times a week. He’s always polite and friendly, always looking for new methods of training. He’s done really well, he’s lost a lot of weight and he’s really trying hard to maintain it and keep it off.”

We look forward to continuing to support Ian on his fitness journey and encouraging the local community to be more active, more often.
