Book signing at Grimsby Library
Issued: Monday 21 November 2016
A book signing is being held at Grimsby Library on Saturday 26th November from 10am to 12pm.
Local author, Richard Gurnham, will be signing copies of his new book, ‘Poor Women and the Great Social Evil: The Story of Poverty and Prostitution in Victorian Louth, Horncastle and Grimsby’, which will also be available to purchase at the event.
This book brings to life the story of the poor women who made a living from prostitution and of the brothels and low taverns which they used. Dr Gurnham’s book will also feature in Grimsby’s Local History Library, which consists of a diverse range of material in various formats and on a wide range of subjects dating back to the mid-19th century.
Jennie Cartwright, Development Officer for Lincs Inspire Libraries, said: “Lincs Inspire’s Library Service is always keen to support local authors and we are always on the lookout for new material to add to the Local History collection and enrich it. Richard’s new book will provide a valuable insight into this aspect of our Victorian local and social history.”
