Commemorating 100 Years Since The Battle Of The Somme

Issued: Monday 27 June 2016

Lincs Inspire Libraries will be hosting a number of events to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

There will be talks by local historian Steve Bramley about the Lincolnshire Regiments and a talk and separate Q&A session with researcher Peter Steel, as well as family history sessions at all Lincs Inspire libraries.

The free Q&A drop-in session with Grimsby Chums historian Peter Steel will be held at Grimsby Library on Tuesday 5th July. People with an interest in, or a connection to the Grimsby Chums, are invited to share their knowledge of the events of 1914 to 1918 and learn more about how the Great War affected the population of Grimsby.

During the Q&A session, Peter will welcome questions or be happy to receive further information relating to people’s family involvement with this great Battalion known affectionately as The Grimsby Chums. Those attending can drop in any time between 10am and 2pm.

On Thursday 7th July, local historian Steve Bramley will give his talk on The Lincolnshire Battalions on the first day of the Battle of the Somme at Cleethorpes Library at 2.30pm. The talk is free to attend, but places must be booked in advance.

Waltham Library will play host to a talk by Peter Steel entitled My Chums Obsession on Thursday 14th July at 2pm. The talk is free to attend, but places must be booked in advance.
