Summer Youth Musical

Now in its 13th year, Grimsby Auditorium and Lincs Inspire Summer Youth Musical will perform the magical Wizard Of Oz (RSC) for four performances across Friday 5 & Saturday 6 August at 2pm & 7pm.

The Wizard of Oz (RSC) is the musical that will put a smile on everyone’s face is based on the classic motion picture and adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination. Featuring all your favourite songs: Over The Rainbow, Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve, We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road), The Merry Old Land of Oz and more…

Earlier this year the Summer Youth Musical auditions attracted 120 talented performers aged 9 – 19 from our region. The project as always is supported by a team of industry professionals with a wide range of experience including direction, production, musical direction, choreography and technical expertise. All involved are passionate about the performing arts and ready for the challenging yet rewarding experience.

Robin Martin Oliver, Director has to say about returning for his second year as Summer Youth Musical.

“After the challenge of High School Musical last year which was a big success, I’m very excited about returning to Grimsby Auditorium to direct Wizard of Oz. Not least as it is such a great show, clever lyrics and timeless tunes which are now classics. We have two great casts lined up including two excellent Dorothy’s, who have exceptional singing voices for their age, and if the auditions are anything to go by, are very capable actresses too. In fact all those who were successful in being offered a part are very talented young adults with a high level of performing skills.”

The standard of the auditions, I felt, had gone up since last year, which is a measure of how popular the ‘Lincs Inspire’ project is, and what high regard it is held in by these young performers. It looks like being another excellent production all round and it certainly makes my job as the Director so much easier when you have a professional crew to work with covering all the aspects of a theatre show. Very much looking forward to working with all at Lincs Inspire, not least Claire Williams who is always so helpful and extremely well organised. I think she has chosen another winner in Oz.”
