Comedy Talks Raise Awareness of Men’s Health
Author of The Haunted Moustache visits Cleethorpes during ‘Movember’.
In Support of Movember, the national charity tackling men’s health, next month Lincs Inspire is bringing people together for a spot of laughter therapy!
Organisations throughout the country are hosting a range of events to get together, raise funds, make some noise, and stop men dying too young.
Two talks by Scunthorpe born writer, musician, performer and broadcaster, David Bramwell, will take place on Wednesday, November 1 at Cleethorpes Library.
Described by a friend as ‘a one-man cottage industry’, David Bramwell has a variety of strings to his bow. He has made and presented programmes for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 and appeared as a guest on Radio 4's Saturday Live, The Museum of Curiosity, Radio 3's The Verb and The Chris Evans Radio Show. He also regularly produces, presents and co-presents podcasts.
On his forthcoming visit to Cleethorpes, Bramwell said:
“Movember is a great cause, I urge every man, woman and child to participate this November.
The History of Postal Pranks and Mischief
His first talk ‘The History of Postal Pranks and Mischief’ takes place at 2:30pm. Inspired by Victorian prankster Reginald Bray “godfather of postal mischief”, Bramwell explains how he followed in his footsteps; experiencing the delight of seeing the postman’s face one morning handing over a set of false teeth with the stamps stuck on the gums!
The Haunted Moustache
If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, at 7pm Bramwell will be talking about ‘The Haunted Moustache’ which began as an award-winning one-man show and was later dramatized by BBC Radio 3, winning a Sony Silver Award for ‘best feature’. Uniquely presented through memoir, essay and ephemera, The Haunted Moustache is a fantastical and 83% true story of a unique inheritance: a century-old moustache!
Moustache You a Question Exhibition
Alongside the talks there will also be “Moustche You A Question”, an amusing exhibition at Cleethorpes Library of men with moustaches, taken from the Hallgarth Collection of photographs held by Lincs Inspire Libraries. Also a chance for you to grow an instant mo and share a selfie!
Movember is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round. They address some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
The talks on Wednesday, November 1, take place in The Albert Room at Cleethorpes Library.
Tickets are £3.50 each. Please book in advance at Cleethorpes Library as places are limited. Call in or phone (01472) 323650. There will be a collection at each event for donations to Movember.
