Safety Measures

Safety measures in place at Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and Waltham Libraries, include:

  • Limits to the number of customers allowed in at any one time

  • The quarantining of all returned items for 72 hours

  • Hand sanitiser is available and there is clear social distancing signage

  • Face coverings are mandatory in all our libraries with the exception of medical exemptions

Customers will be able to browse and select books to borrow.

The Reference and Local History Service at Grimsby Library must be pre-booked and for a maximum of 45 minutes. After a booking is made a member of staff will prepare the materials needed in advance and contact the customer to confirm the booking. Some items may not be available due to the 72-hour quarantine period or size.

The Ring and Reserve service, which allows customers to reserve books for collection, will continue to be available. The usual reservation charges apply to this service.

Books loaned out before lockdown will need to be returned by Friday, August 14.

Public computers can be pre-booked and for a maximum of 30 minutes and printing will also be available. Customers are asked to bring the correct money for payment.

To adhere to social distancing measures, computers have been spaced out and therefore there is a reduced number of computers available. This is temporary and all measures will be regularly reviewed to gradually increase the services on offer.

North East Lincolnshire Archives

North East Lincolnshire Archives is reopening its doors to the public on Monday 3rd August 2020.

We look forward to welcoming users again, but please be aware that many of our procedures have been changed due to the coronavirus emergency. Our priority is to safeguard the health of our readers and staff, and we have therefore introduced social distancing and hygiene measures in line with government guidelines.

In order to ensure that social distancing is maintained, admittance to the search room will be by appointment only on a first come, first served basis. Our search room is very small and the number of people we will be able to accommodate with appropriate social distancing will be very limited. The records that you require should be ordered in advance, though we may be able to produce some items on the day (depending on capacity).

Our opening times will remain unchanged: Monday to Thursday, 9.30am-12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm.

You can book your place in the search room by telephone (01472 323585) or by e-mail (
