Extended Pool Closure - Cleethorpes Leisure Centre

Updated: Wednesday 20th November

During the energy improvement works at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, which includes the replacement of all glazing around the pool hall, an incident resulted in glass fragments falling into the pool. As a result, the pool at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre will be closed for an extended period of time. Our priority is to ensure that there is no risk to the public and pool users when we reopen – customer safety is our main concern. Therefore the pool will be drained and a thorough clean will take place. The exact timescales for re-opening the pool are uncertain at this point; a re-opening is unlikely before mid-December. Please see the full statement below issued by North East Lincolnshire Council and Lincs Inspire.

We apologise to all of our customers for this extended closure period, and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this time. Please see below for information regarding any memberships.

Due to this extended closure period, and in addition to Swim School's Christmas break (16th December to 2nd January), unfortunately swimming lessons at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre will not resume until January 2020. We appreciate that this is a long period of time without lessons, and we are sorry for the disruption.

Temporary Transfer Opportunity
For as many customers as we can accommodate, there is the opportunity to transfer lessons to our other swim school sites at Grimsby Leisure Centre or Immingham Swimming Pool. Places are limited and they will be available:

  • On a first come, first served basis to those requesting a transfer
  • Only available where we have available spaces in your child's corresponding swim level stage
  • On a temporary basis until swimming lessons resume at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre
  • Transfer requests will only be considered if you contact us between the days and times listed below

If you would like to explore this option please contact: Grimsby Leisure Centre on (01472) 323509 from 10am on Thursday, November 21st to 4pm on Friday, November 22nd.

If you are successful in transferring your lessons to another site, your lessons will resume week commencing Monday, 23rd November at the new site on your existing terms and conditions. You will receive a credit note for the additional cancelled lessons from Monday 18th November to Saturday 23rd November. This will be applied to January's direct debit payment. All customers' December payments have already been re-adjusted for the planned first week closure period.

Cancelled Lessons - Payment Amendments
If you do not wish transfer your lessons to another site, or if we are unable to accommodate your transfer request, no action is needed and you will be reimbursed for any cancelled lessons. This will be applied to January's direct debit payment. All customers' December payments have already been re-adjusted for the planned first week closure period.

Re-enrolment - Paid in Full members only
If you would like to continue your lessons at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre in the New Year, please ensure you re-enrol before Sunday 8th December to secure your place. Please do this by calling in to Cleethorpes Leisure Centre before this date, or phone us on (01472) 323444.

The gyms and studio classes at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre are unaffected.

Customers with any queries, who are affected by the closure, can email us at enquiries@lincsinspire.com or speak to a member of the customer service team.

Sorry for the ongoing closure. We value your business and support during this period of disruption.

Statement - extended closure

A spokesperson for North East Lincolnshire Council and Lincs Inspire said: “Our priority is to ensure that there is no risk to the public and pool users when we reopen – customer safety is our main concern.

“Once all work in the pool hall is complete a thorough clean of the whole pool will take place, this will require the pool to be drained. During this time we also plan to take the opportunity to carry out some further maintenance works. At this stage we do not have an exact timescale for reopening, we will be looking to carry all works out as quickly as possible, however this must be a thorough process, therefore a reopening of the pool is unlikely before mid-December.

“The overall works which are being carried out across Cleethorpes Leisure Centre are to improve the energy efficiency of the building and those already completed are showing signs of improvement, with better heat retention.  Further ongoing improvements to lighting, a new front entrance, and boiler/plant room works are also planned to be completed in the coming weeks.

“We are sorry for the extended closure period and disruption to services and thank customers for their patience as work is carried out to ensure that the pool environment remains in the highest possible standard.”
