The Spoken Word Returns for 2019
Saturday evening saw the eagerly anticipated return for 2019 of Lincs Inspire’s Open Mic Nights, with Cleethorpes Library hosting for the first time.
The events, which are part of an ongoing programme called The Spoken Word co-ordinated by Lincs Inspire Libraries with funding from Libraries Connected, provide the chance for local writers, poets and book lovers to perform readings of their own work and from their favourite literature in a relaxed, café style setting.
The Open Mic Nights take place at Cleethorpes Library and Waltham Library and actively encourage participation of local people, whilst nurturing talent and celebrating diversity.
Saturday’s event, hosted by Josie Moon, saw poetry and literature on a diverse range of subjects performed to the backing guitar played by Lincolnshire based jazz guitarist Pat McCarthy.
Josie said: “It is great to have the opportunity to be part of The Spoken Word programme that gives local writers and those interested in poetry a chance to be part of a community of writers sharing their work, performing and listening to each other.”
Howard Marshall, one of the performers said: “Writing poetry is a pastime activity I have enjoyed for many years, however, having the opportunity to present and perform my poetry at The Spoken Word Open Mic Events as promoted by Lincs Inspire is a great opening to develop and share my work with other poets and a greater public audience.”
Lincs Inspire Open Mic nights take place 7:30pm – 9pm on the following dates:
Saturday 9th February
Saturday 2nd March
Saturday 23rd February
Saturday 23rd March
Saturday 27th April
Saturday 25th May
Saturday 29th June
All are welcome, including those who would rather be part of the audience than on the stage themselves. Tickets cost £3.50 and are available from Cleethorpes Library (01472 353650) and Waltham Library (01472 323656).
