Stephen Bloy Talk at Waltham Library

Stephen Bloy will give a talk entitled ‘For those in peril on the sea’ at Waltham Library on Friday 17th November at 2.30pm.

Stephen’s talk will address the hardships and dangers faced by fishermen and their fishing smacks as they helped contribute to the growth and prosperity of Grimsby during the latter half of the 19th century.

Stephen said: “With the coming of the railway, Grimsby rapidly became a wealthy town and the premier fishing port in the world but, very few knew for those in peril on the sea a terrible price was being paid by some fishermen to create that wealth.”

Since first giving a talk for the Library service in 2011, Stephen Bloy has subsequently had four books published.  One of his novels, ‘Hidden Truth’, is based on the growth and reality of Grimsby as a fishing port in Victorian times.

The talk will take place in the meeting room at Waltham Library on Friday 17th November at 2.30pm. The cost is £3.50 per person (no concessions).
